A hand-drawn candle, wax running down the sides, orange rays coming off the flame, with the verse arched around it in weathered capitals: “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130.” Three colours — charcoal text, yellow candle, orange flame and rays. Illustrated, a little old-fashioned in a good way.
Two inks. Dark ink — charcoal text — for sand, olive, cream and heather. Light ink turns the text white for black and navy while the candle stays yellow and orange. Either way the illustration carries it.
Keep it at 10 inches or larger. The rays and the drips are fine detail; under 9 inches they start to fill in and the verse arch gets small.
